Bespoke Kitchens in Northumberland

Cabinetry made for your room, in the timber and finish you choose.

Northumberland is a county of thick-walled stone cottages, estate housing and remote rural properties. That is exactly the kind of building stock a bespoke kitchen has to be drawn around, so we allow for it at survey stage rather than on fitting day — walls get checked for wind and plumb, floors for level, and the setting-out is taken from the worst reading, not the best.

How we approach it

Off-the-shelf units are made to standard sizes and then filled out with scribe strips. Our bespoke kitchen work is cut to the dimensions taken from your Northumberland property, so there is no packing, no filler and no gap that opens up in year two.

How we build it

Hardware is specified to the weight it is carrying, not to a price point. Soft-close runners are rated for the drawer load, hinges are adjustable in three planes, and sliding gear is sized so a full-height door still moves with one finger a decade later.

Finish and materials

You can have it primed for your own decorator, sprayed in any RAL or heritage colour, or left in oiled timber. Oiled finishes can be refreshed at home; sprayed finishes are harder wearing and are what we recommend for kitchens and anything at knee height.

Straight answers

Bespoke Kitchens in Northumberland — common questions

What is the difference between in-frame and frameless?

In-frame doors sit inside a solid timber face frame, which is the traditional cabinetmaker's method — it looks better, is more forgiving in an old house, and costs more. Frameless (or full overlay) doors sit over the carcass edge and give a cleaner, more contemporary line for less.

Which worktop material do you recommend?

Quartz for durability and no maintenance. Granite if you want natural stone that will take heat. Solid timber for warmth, accepting it needs oiling and will mark. We fit all three and template through a stone specialist.

What timber do you use for painted kitchens?

Tulipwood for the frames and doors, MR MDF for panels. Tulipwood machines to a very crisp edge and does not telegraph grain through paint the way oak does.

Is a bespoke kitchen worth it over a good German range?

A German range gives you excellent engineering in standard modules. Bespoke gives you a kitchen with no filler panels, in the exact colour, using the full height and the awkward corners. In a period house with uneven walls, bespoke is usually the better value; in a square new-build, less so.

Do you work with architects and builders?

Regularly. We can work to your drawings and specification, price from a schedule, and co-ordinate with the main contractor's programme. We are equally happy dealing directly with a homeowner from a rough sketch.
