Shropshire is a county of timber-framed and brick town houses, stone cottages and scattered rural farmsteads. That is exactly the kind of building stock a boot room has to be drawn around, so we allow for it at survey stage rather than on fitting day — walls get checked for wind and plumb, floors for level, and the setting-out is taken from the worst reading, not the best.
How we approach it
A boot room is a permanent part of the building, so it is worth setting out properly. We take the survey, agree the drawings, machine the parts in the workshop and fit in Shropshire in one visit wherever the programme allows.
How we build it
Timber is chosen for the room it is going into. Painted work is built in tulipwood and moisture-resistant MDF because they hold a crisp arris and take a sprayed finish without grain rise. Where the grain is meant to be seen we use European oak, walnut or ash, with veneers laid so the figure runs continuously across a set of doors.
Finish and materials
You can have it primed for your own decorator, sprayed in any RAL or heritage colour, or left in oiled timber. Oiled finishes can be refreshed at home; sprayed finishes are harder wearing and are what we recommend for kitchens and anything at knee height.

Can you include a sink?
Yes, and a deep Belfast is the practical choice. We build the cabinetry and worktop around it; the plumbing connection is a separate trade.
How much hanging space per person?
Allow 300mm of rail or two hooks per person for everyday coats, plus a shared section for the bulky winter items. Families always underestimate this.
What finish survives wet coats and muddy boots?
Sprayed two-pack lacquer on MR MDF, or oiled oak. Standard emulsion or brushed eggshell will mark at knee height within a season.
What about dog kit?
A dedicated low cupboard for leads, towels and food, plus a wipe-clean floor area for a bed or a bowl. A pull-out step also helps for washing a muddy dog in a low sink.
Is bespoke joinery more expensive than a fitted furniture chain?
On a like-for-like specification it is usually comparable, and often less. Chains price a standard carcass and then charge for every deviation. A bespoke maker prices the actual room once. Where bespoke does cost more is in the materials — solid hardwood and sprayed finishes cost more than foil-wrapped board, and they last a great deal longer.
