Isle of Man is a county of rendered stone cottages, Victorian promenade terraces and rural farm properties. That is exactly the kind of building stock a casement window has to be drawn around, so we allow for it at survey stage rather than on fitting day — walls get checked for wind and plumb, floors for level, and the setting-out is taken from the worst reading, not the best.
How we approach it
Walls in Isle of Man are rarely square and floors are rarely level. A casement window that is built in a workshop to a nominal size will show every millimetre of that. We survey first, scribe on site, and finish so the joint line disappears.
How we build it
Timber is chosen for the room it is going into. Painted work is built in tulipwood and moisture-resistant MDF because they hold a crisp arris and take a sprayed finish without grain rise. Where the grain is meant to be seen we use European oak, walnut or ash, with veneers laid so the figure runs continuously across a set of doors.
Finish and materials
Finishing happens in the workshop wherever possible. Sprayed paint gives an even film that brushwork cannot match, and the only work left on site is the final touch-in around scribes and fixings.

Straight answers
Timber Casement Windows in Isle of Man — common questions
How long do timber casements last?
In Accoya with a factory finish, fifty years plus with routine maintenance. In unmodified softwood, twenty to thirty. The failure point is nearly always the bottom rail and the sill where water sits.
What ironmongery do casements use?
Either traditional peg stays and casement fasteners, or concealed friction hinges with espagnolette locking. Traditional looks right; friction hinges are easier to seal and give you an egress-compliant opening where a fire escape window is required.
Can casements be made in a curved or arched head?
Yes. Segmental and semicircular heads are made from laminated sections so the head does not have short grain. It adds to the cost and the lead time.
How much disruption is there when replacing windows?
One to two windows a day, each open for a few hours. We make good the internal reveal and the external pointing; redecoration of the reveal is usually needed afterwards.
How long does a bespoke job take from order to fitting?
Most fitted furniture runs four to eight weeks from approved drawings to fitting day. Kitchens, staircases and timber windows are longer at eight to fourteen weeks because the components are larger and the finishing schedule is longer. We give you a date band at quotation and confirm the fitting week once the drawings are signed off.
