Shropshire is a county of timber-framed and brick town houses, stone cottages and scattered rural farmsteads. That is exactly the kind of building stock a front door has to be drawn around, so we allow for it at survey stage rather than on fitting day — walls get checked for wind and plumb, floors for level, and the setting-out is taken from the worst reading, not the best.
How we approach it
Walls in Shropshire are rarely square and floors are rarely level. A front door that is built in a workshop to a nominal size will show every millimetre of that. We survey first, scribe on site, and finish so the joint line disappears.
How we build it
Timber is chosen for the room it is going into. Painted work is built in tulipwood and moisture-resistant MDF because they hold a crisp arris and take a sprayed finish without grain rise. Where the grain is meant to be seen we use European oak, walnut or ash, with veneers laid so the figure runs continuously across a set of doors.
Finish and materials
Every finished job gets a short handover: what the surface is, how to clean it, and how to adjust a hinge if a door drops after the heating has been on for a season. Adjustment is normal in timber and takes about two minutes once you know which screw to turn.

Will a timber door meet building regulations for heat loss?
Yes, with an insulated core and modern double glazing where glazed. We specify to the required U-value and can provide the calculation for building control if a door is being replaced as part of notifiable work.
Can you copy an original Victorian or Edwardian door?
Yes, and it is one of the most satisfying jobs we do. We record the panel layout, mouldings and glazing pattern, then rebuild it in a stable timber with modern locking and draught seals hidden in the rebate.
Should the frame be replaced too?
Almost always. An old frame is rarely square, often has rot at the base of the jambs, and will not accept a modern multipoint keep properly. A doorset — door and frame made together — is the right answer.
Can I have a letterplate in the door?
Yes, though a through-the-wall letterbox or an external box is kinder to the door — a letterplate aperture is a hole in your insulation and a draught path. If you want one, we fit a brush-and-flap sealed unit.
How do I pay, and when?
A deposit at order to cover materials, a stage payment when the work leaves the workshop, and the balance on completion after you have inspected the fit. Everything is written into the quotation before you commit.
