That is exactly the kind of building stock a hardwood arch has to be drawn around, so we allow for it at survey stage rather than on fitting day — walls get checked for wind and plumb, floors for level, and the setting-out is taken from the worst reading, not the best.
How we approach it
Walls in East Sussex are rarely square and floors are rarely level. A hardwood arch that is built in a workshop to a nominal size will show every millimetre of that. We survey first, scribe on site, and finish so the joint line disappears.
How we build it
Moisture matters more than most people expect. Timber is conditioned before machining, and anything going into a kitchen, utility or bathroom is specified in materials that will not swell at the bottom edge. That is why the base of a well-made unit still closes cleanly after five winters.
Finish and materials
You can have it primed for your own decorator, sprayed in any RAL or heritage colour, or left in oiled timber. Oiled finishes can be refreshed at home; sprayed finishes are harder wearing and are what we recommend for kitchens and anything at knee height.

What curves can you make?
Semicircular, segmental, elliptical, gothic and flat-arched. An ellipse needs a purpose-made former, so we set that out from the survey rather than approximating with a compound radius.
Does an arched frame cost much more than a square one?
Yes, because of the former and the laminating time. The former is the fixed cost, so a pair of matching arches is proportionally cheaper than one.
What timber laminates best?
Oak and sapele both bend well in thin leaves. For exterior work accoya laminates well and is very stable once formed.
How is the springing detailed?
The curve meets the jamb at a proper springing line with the joint cut on the radius. A curve that dies into a straight without a defined springing looks unresolved.
Do I need to empty the room before you fit?
Clear the working wall and anything fragile. We bring dust sheets and a vacuum-extracted saw, but fitting makes dust and we would rather your furniture was out of the way. For kitchens we will agree a sequence with you so you keep a sink and a kettle for as long as possible.
