Lancashire is a county of stone terraces in the mill towns, seaside boarding houses and rural farmhouses. That is exactly the kind of building stock a hardwood door has to be drawn around, so we allow for it at survey stage rather than on fitting day — walls get checked for wind and plumb, floors for level, and the setting-out is taken from the worst reading, not the best.
How we approach it
Walls in Lancashire are rarely square and floors are rarely level. A hardwood door that is built in a workshop to a nominal size will show every millimetre of that. We survey first, scribe on site, and finish so the joint line disappears.
How we build it
Carcass work is birch ply or MR MDF depending on span and load. Face frames and doors are solid hardwood. Everything is machined on the same setting so stiles, rails and reveals line through, and shadow gaps stay parallel from one end of the run to the other.
Finish and materials
Every finished job gets a short handover: what the surface is, how to clean it, and how to adjust a hinge if a door drops after the heating has been on for a season. Adjustment is normal in timber and takes about two minutes once you know which screw to turn.

What about security?
Multipoint locking, laminated glazing where there is glass, and hinge bolts. Part Q applies to new dwellings and sets a tested standard for the doorset as a whole, not just the lock.
How much do they move seasonally?
An engineered core moves very little. We still set clearances for a wet winter rather than a dry summer, because a door that fits perfectly in August and jams in January was set up in the wrong season.
Solid or engineered core?
Engineered core with hardwood faces for most doors, because a solid slab of hardwood in a heated house will move and eventually bind or twist. Solid is right for smaller doors and where the spec demands it.
Do you supply the frame too?
Yes, and we would rather. A good door hung in a twisted frame will never close properly, and door and frame made together means the rebate and the weatherseal actually line up.
How long does a bespoke job take from order to fitting?
Most fitted furniture runs four to eight weeks from approved drawings to fitting day. Kitchens, staircases and timber windows are longer at eight to fourteen weeks because the components are larger and the finishing schedule is longer. We give you a date band at quotation and confirm the fitting week once the drawings are signed off.
