Suffolk is a county of timber-framed and colour-washed cottages with strict conservation controls. That is exactly the kind of building stock a hardwood door has to be drawn around, so we allow for it at survey stage rather than on fitting day — walls get checked for wind and plumb, floors for level, and the setting-out is taken from the worst reading, not the best.
How we approach it
Walls in Suffolk are rarely square and floors are rarely level. A hardwood door that is built in a workshop to a nominal size will show every millimetre of that. We survey first, scribe on site, and finish so the joint line disappears.
How we build it
Carcass work is birch ply or MR MDF depending on span and load. Face frames and doors are solid hardwood. Everything is machined on the same setting so stiles, rails and reveals line through, and shadow gaps stay parallel from one end of the run to the other.
Finish and materials
Every finished job gets a short handover: what the surface is, how to clean it, and how to adjust a hinge if a door drops after the heating has been on for a season. Adjustment is normal in timber and takes about two minutes once you know which screw to turn.

Accoya or iroko facing weather, oak where the building calls for it. South and west elevations take the most punishment and justify the more stable option.
Can you match existing doors in a house?
Yes. We take the panel layout, the moulding profile and the stile widths off an original so a replacement reads as part of the set rather than a substitution.
Are hardwood doors fire rated?
FD30 and FD60 doorsets are available but must be built as a certified assembly — door, frame, intumescent and ironmongery tested together. A hardwood door with a strip added afterwards is not rated.
