Hardwood Flooring in Hertfordshire

Engineered and solid boards, laid and finished to suit the subfloor.

Hertfordshire is a county of garden-city housing, Georgian market-town centres and generous 1960s detached stock. That is exactly the kind of building stock a hardwood floor has to be drawn around, so we allow for it at survey stage rather than on fitting day — walls get checked for wind and plumb, floors for level, and the setting-out is taken from the worst reading, not the best.

How we approach it

Off-the-shelf units are made to standard sizes and then filled out with scribe strips. Our hardwood floor work is cut to the dimensions taken from your Hertfordshire property, so there is no packing, no filler and no gap that opens up in year two.

How we build it

Hardware is specified to the weight it is carrying, not to a price point. Soft-close runners are rated for the drawer load, hinges are adjustable in three planes, and sliding gear is sized so a full-height door still moves with one finger a decade later.

Finish and materials

Finishing happens in the workshop wherever possible. Sprayed paint gives an even film that brushwork cannot match, and the only work left on site is the final touch-in around scribes and fixings.

Fit & handover

We fit, scribe, adjust and touch in, then walk you through care and adjustment before we leave.

Straight answers

Hardwood Flooring in Hertfordshire — common questions

Can it go over underfloor heating?

Engineered, yes, with a maximum surface temperature and a slow commissioning cycle. Solid boards over underfloor heating will gap in winter, however carefully they are laid.

Does it need acclimatising?

Yes, in the room it is going into, at the humidity it will live at. Boards laid straight off a cold van will move once the heating goes on.

Can it be sanded later?

Solid can be sanded several times. Engineered depends on the wear layer — a 4mm or 6mm layer can take two or three sandings, a 2mm layer realistically one.

Can you match existing boards?

We can match species, width and finish closely. Exact colour is harder, because an existing floor has aged. Feathering the new into the old across a threshold usually reads better than a hard junction.

How do I pay, and when?

A deposit at order to cover materials, a stage payment when the work leaves the workshop, and the balance on completion after you have inspected the fit. Everything is written into the quotation before you commit.
