Leicestershire is a county of slate-roofed brick terraces, ironstone villages and substantial new development. That is exactly the kind of building stock a hardwood floor has to be drawn around, so we allow for it at survey stage rather than on fitting day — walls get checked for wind and plumb, floors for level, and the setting-out is taken from the worst reading, not the best.
How we approach it
We build hardwood flooring as cabinetmakers rather than fitters: machined joints, real carcass construction, and a finish applied under workshop conditions before anything reaches your Leicestershire address.
How we build it
Carcass work is birch ply or MR MDF depending on span and load. Face frames and doors are solid hardwood. Everything is machined on the same setting so stiles, rails and reveals line through, and shadow gaps stay parallel from one end of the run to the other.
Finish and materials
You can have it primed for your own decorator, sprayed in any RAL or heritage colour, or left in oiled timber. Oiled finishes can be refreshed at home; sprayed finishes are harder wearing and are what we recommend for kitchens and anything at knee height.

What about expansion gaps?
Essential, around the whole perimeter and at thresholds, hidden under the skirting or a bead. A floor laid tight to the wall will buckle in the first humid spell.
Engineered or solid?
Engineered for most situations — it is far more stable across seasons and is the only sensible option over underfloor heating. Solid is fine over a stable timber subfloor in a room without heating below.
How wide should the boards be?
Wider boards suit larger rooms and read more generously; narrow boards suit smaller spaces and are more stable. Over about 220mm wide, engineered construction really matters.
What finish?
Hardwax oil for repairability, lacquer for maximum wear resistance in a hallway. Oil can be patched; lacquer has to be sanded back as a whole floor when it wears through.
Do you charge for the survey and drawings?
The measured survey and the quotation are free. If you want fully detailed manufacturing drawings or a 3D visual before committing, that is chargeable and the fee comes off the job if you proceed.
