Vale of Glamorgan is a county of limestone cottages, Victorian seaside villas and substantial modern estates. That is exactly the kind of building stock a hardwood floor has to be drawn around, so we allow for it at survey stage rather than on fitting day — walls get checked for wind and plumb, floors for level, and the setting-out is taken from the worst reading, not the best.
How we approach it
Walls in Vale of Glamorgan are rarely square and floors are rarely level. A hardwood floor that is built in a workshop to a nominal size will show every millimetre of that. We survey first, scribe on site, and finish so the joint line disappears.
How we build it
Carcass work is birch ply or MR MDF depending on span and load. Face frames and doors are solid hardwood. Everything is machined on the same setting so stiles, rails and reveals line through, and shadow gaps stay parallel from one end of the run to the other.
Finish and materials
Every finished job gets a short handover: what the surface is, how to clean it, and how to adjust a hinge if a door drops after the heating has been on for a season. Adjustment is normal in timber and takes about two minutes once you know which screw to turn.

Straight answers
Hardwood Flooring in Vale of Glamorgan — common questions
Does it need acclimatising?
Yes, in the room it is going into, at the humidity it will live at. Boards laid straight off a cold van will move once the heating goes on.
Can it be sanded later?
Solid can be sanded several times. Engineered depends on the wear layer — a 4mm or 6mm layer can take two or three sandings, a 2mm layer realistically one.
Can you match existing boards?
We can match species, width and finish closely. Exact colour is harder, because an existing floor has aged. Feathering the new into the old across a threshold usually reads better than a hard junction.
Can it go over underfloor heating?
Engineered, yes, with a maximum surface temperature and a slow commissioning cycle. Solid boards over underfloor heating will gap in winter, however carefully they are laid.
Can you match existing joinery in the house?
Yes. We take a profile of the existing skirting, architrave or door and either match it from stock cutters or have a cutter ground so the new work runs identically. Matching an old paint colour is straightforward; matching aged oak takes a sample panel and a couple of attempts, which we build into the programme.
