Worcestershire is a county of black-and-white timber framing, Georgian riverside houses and new-build market towns. That is exactly the kind of building stock a pair of hardwood gates has to be drawn around, so we allow for it at survey stage rather than on fitting day — walls get checked for wind and plumb, floors for level, and the setting-out is taken from the worst reading, not the best.
How we approach it
We build hardwood gates as cabinetmakers rather than fitters: machined joints, real carcass construction, and a finish applied under workshop conditions before anything reaches your Worcestershire address.
How we build it
Timber is chosen for the room it is going into. Painted work is built in tulipwood and moisture-resistant MDF because they hold a crisp arris and take a sprayed finish without grain rise. Where the grain is meant to be seen we use European oak, walnut or ash, with veneers laid so the figure runs continuously across a set of doors.
Finish and materials
Finishing happens in the workshop wherever possible. Sprayed paint gives an even film that brushwork cannot match, and the only work left on site is the final touch-in around scribes and fixings.

Straight answers
Hardwood Gates in Worcestershire — common questions
What stops a wooden gate dropping?
Bracing that runs from the bottom hinge upward, so the diagonal works in compression. Run it the other way and it works in tension, the joints open and the gate sags. This is the single most common fault we are called out to.
What ironmongery do you use?
Stainless or galvanised throughout, and sized generously. Gate hardware fails long before the timber does, and undersized hinges on a heavy hardwood gate will tear out.
How wide can a single leaf be?
Around 1.2 metres before the leverage starts working against you. Beyond that a pair is better than one very wide leaf, both for the hardware and for the swing space.
Will they match my fencing?
We can match the boarding pattern and spacing so the gate reads as part of the run rather than as an insert. Same species matters too, since different hardwoods silver to different greys.
What guarantee do you give?
Ten years on workmanship. Hardware carries the manufacturer's warranty, which on good runners and hinges is usually lifetime. Finishes are guaranteed for five years against flaking or delamination in normal domestic use.
