Berkshire is a county of riverside Victorian villas and a large stock of 1980s onwards executive housing. That is exactly the kind of building stock a hardwood window has to be drawn around, so we allow for it at survey stage rather than on fitting day — walls get checked for wind and plumb, floors for level, and the setting-out is taken from the worst reading, not the best.
How we approach it
Off-the-shelf units are made to standard sizes and then filled out with scribe strips. Our hardwood window work is cut to the dimensions taken from your Berkshire property, so there is no packing, no filler and no gap that opens up in year two.
How we build it
Carcass work is birch ply or MR MDF depending on span and load. Face frames and doors are solid hardwood. Everything is machined on the same setting so stiles, rails and reveals line through, and shadow gaps stay parallel from one end of the run to the other.
Finish and materials
You can have it primed for your own decorator, sprayed in any RAL or heritage colour, or left in oiled timber. Oiled finishes can be refreshed at home; sprayed finishes are harder wearing and are what we recommend for kitchens and anything at knee height.

Will they match my existing windows?
We take sections off the originals so the sightlines, the glazing bar widths and the cill projection come back the same. Modern stock sections are usually chunkier and it shows across a facade.
How are they finished?
Sprayed before delivery, all six faces including the top and bottom of the sash. Ends and rebates sealed. This is the difference between a ten-year finish and a three-year one.
Why choose hardwood over softwood?
Durability and stability. On an exposed elevation a hardwood or modified-timber window will hold its finish and its geometry for far longer, which matters more than the initial price difference over a twenty-year life.
Can hardwood windows be double glazed?
Yes, and slim units are available where sightlines matter on a period elevation. The section sizes are set by the unit thickness, so we specify glass and timber together rather than one after the other.
Can you match existing joinery in the house?
Yes. We take a profile of the existing skirting, architrave or door and either match it from stock cutters or have a cutter ground so the new work runs identically. Matching an old paint colour is straightforward; matching aged oak takes a sample panel and a couple of attempts, which we build into the programme.
