Cheshire is a county of black-and-white revival houses, Georgian Chester stock and large executive estates. That is exactly the kind of building stock a hardwood window has to be drawn around, so we allow for it at survey stage rather than on fitting day — walls get checked for wind and plumb, floors for level, and the setting-out is taken from the worst reading, not the best.
How we approach it
Walls in Cheshire are rarely square and floors are rarely level. A hardwood window that is built in a workshop to a nominal size will show every millimetre of that. We survey first, scribe on site, and finish so the joint line disappears.
How we build it
Moisture matters more than most people expect. Timber is conditioned before machining, and anything going into a kitchen, utility or bathroom is specified in materials that will not swell at the bottom edge. That is why the base of a well-made unit still closes cleanly after five winters.
Finish and materials
You can have it primed for your own decorator, sprayed in any RAL or heritage colour, or left in oiled timber. Oiled finishes can be refreshed at home; sprayed finishes are harder wearing and are what we recommend for kitchens and anything at knee height.

Why choose hardwood over softwood?
Durability and stability. On an exposed elevation a hardwood or modified-timber window will hold its finish and its geometry for far longer, which matters more than the initial price difference over a twenty-year life.
Can hardwood windows be double glazed?
Yes, and slim units are available where sightlines matter on a period elevation. The section sizes are set by the unit thickness, so we specify glass and timber together rather than one after the other.
Will they match my existing windows?
We take sections off the originals so the sightlines, the glazing bar widths and the cill projection come back the same. Modern stock sections are usually chunkier and it shows across a facade.
How are they finished?
Sprayed before delivery, all six faces including the top and bottom of the sash. Ends and rebates sealed. This is the difference between a ten-year finish and a three-year one.
Do I need to empty the room before you fit?
Clear the working wall and anything fragile. We bring dust sheets and a vacuum-extracted saw, but fitting makes dust and we would rather your furniture was out of the way. For kitchens we will agree a sequence with you so you keep a sink and a kettle for as long as possible.
