Isle of Man is a county of rendered stone cottages, Victorian promenade terraces and rural farm properties. That is exactly the kind of building stock a kitchen island has to be drawn around, so we allow for it at survey stage rather than on fitting day — walls get checked for wind and plumb, floors for level, and the setting-out is taken from the worst reading, not the best.
How we approach it
Every kitchen island we make starts with a site survey and a set of setting-out drawings, not a catalogue page. We measure the opening in Isle of Man, check the walls for wind and the floor for fall, then cut a carcass that fits the room you actually have.
How we build it
Carcass work is birch ply or MR MDF depending on span and load. Face frames and doors are solid hardwood. Everything is machined on the same setting so stiles, rails and reveals line through, and shadow gaps stay parallel from one end of the run to the other.
Finish and materials
Every finished job gets a short handover: what the surface is, how to clean it, and how to adjust a hinge if a door drops after the heating has been on for a season. Adjustment is normal in timber and takes about two minutes once you know which screw to turn.

How much clearance do I need around an island?
1,000mm minimum on every side, 1,200mm on the side with the dishwasher or oven so a door can open with someone standing there. Below 900mm and the room stops working.
What overhang do I need for seating?
300mm of clear knee space for comfortable seating, 250mm as an absolute minimum. Any overhang beyond 300mm in stone needs steel or a bracket underneath.
How much storage does an island give?
A 2,000mm island holds roughly the same as three base units, more if you use full-extension pan drawers rather than cupboards. Drawers are the right answer in an island — nobody wants to kneel in the middle of a room.
Is a breakfast bar the same thing?
Not quite. A breakfast bar is usually a raised section or a peninsula attached to a run. A true island is free-standing on all four sides, and every face of it has to be finished.
What guarantee do you give?
Ten years on workmanship. Hardware carries the manufacturer's warranty, which on good runners and hinges is usually lifetime. Finishes are guaranteed for five years against flaking or delamination in normal domestic use.
