Skirting, Architrave & Mouldings in Dundee and Angus

Profiles matched to the originals and run to length, mitres cut on site.

Dundee and Angus is a county of sandstone tenements, jute-era terraces and coastal town housing. That is exactly the kind of building stock a set of mouldings has to be drawn around, so we allow for it at survey stage rather than on fitting day — walls get checked for wind and plumb, floors for level, and the setting-out is taken from the worst reading, not the best.

How we approach it

Off-the-shelf units are made to standard sizes and then filled out with scribe strips. Our set of mouldings work is cut to the dimensions taken from your Dundee and Angus property, so there is no packing, no filler and no gap that opens up in year two.

How we build it

Timber is chosen for the room it is going into. Painted work is built in tulipwood and moisture-resistant MDF because they hold a crisp arris and take a sprayed finish without grain rise. Where the grain is meant to be seen we use European oak, walnut or ash, with veneers laid so the figure runs continuously across a set of doors.

Finish and materials

You can have it primed for your own decorator, sprayed in any RAL or heritage colour, or left in oiled timber. Oiled finishes can be refreshed at home; sprayed finishes are harder wearing and are what we recommend for kitchens and anything at knee height.

Straight answers

Skirting, Architrave & Mouldings in Dundee and Angus — common questions

Can you match a Victorian skirting profile?

Yes. We take a profile gauge from a clean section, have a cutter ground if it is not in our stock range, and run it in whatever length you need. Ogee, torus and lambs tongue are all held as standard.

MDF or timber?

Primed MR MDF for painted skirting and architrave — it is straighter, cheaper and takes paint better. Solid timber only where it will be stained or where the profile is deep enough to need the strength.

How do you deal with uneven walls?

Scribe the back of the board to the wall rather than filling the front. Filler along a top edge cracks within a heating season; a scribed board does not.

What is the right architrave to skirting relationship?

Architrave is normally a little narrower than the skirting is tall, and the skirting dies into a plinth block at the base of the architrave in a traditional setting. It solves the awkward junction where a deep skirting meets a shallower architrave.

Do you work with architects and builders?

Regularly. We can work to your drawings and specification, price from a schedule, and co-ordinate with the main contractor's programme. We are equally happy dealing directly with a homeowner from a rough sketch.
