Scottish Borders is a county of stone mill-town terraces and substantial rural farmhouses. That is exactly the kind of building stock a set of mouldings has to be drawn around, so we allow for it at survey stage rather than on fitting day — walls get checked for wind and plumb, floors for level, and the setting-out is taken from the worst reading, not the best.
How we approach it
Walls in Scottish Borders are rarely square and floors are rarely level. A set of mouldings that is built in a workshop to a nominal size will show every millimetre of that. We survey first, scribe on site, and finish so the joint line disappears.
How we build it
Carcass work is birch ply or MR MDF depending on span and load. Face frames and doors are solid hardwood. Everything is machined on the same setting so stiles, rails and reveals line through, and shadow gaps stay parallel from one end of the run to the other.
Finish and materials
Finishing happens in the workshop wherever possible. Sprayed paint gives an even film that brushwork cannot match, and the only work left on site is the final touch-in around scribes and fixings.

Can you run picture rails and coving too?
Timber and MDF picture rails and dado rails, yes. Plaster coving and cornice is a plasterer's trade and we work alongside them rather than supplying it.
Can you supply long lengths without joints?
Up to 4.2m in MDF and around 3m in solid timber as standard. Beyond that we scarf-joint rather than butt, so the joint closes invisibly under paint.
What height should skirting be?
It should relate to the ceiling. In a 2.4m room, 145mm to 170mm looks right. In a 3m Victorian room, 220mm and above. Skirting that is too short is the commonest mistake in a period refurbishment.
Do you fit or supply only?
Either. Supply-only is straightforward for a competent joiner or a confident DIYer. We fit where the mitres are complex, the walls are out, or the profile is large enough that a bad joint would show.
What guarantee do you give?
Ten years on workmanship. Hardware carries the manufacturer's warranty, which on good runners and hinges is usually lifetime. Finishes are guaranteed for five years against flaking or delamination in normal domestic use.
