Staffordshire is a county of potteries terraced housing, brick farmhouses and large post-war estates. That is exactly the kind of building stock a set of mouldings has to be drawn around, so we allow for it at survey stage rather than on fitting day — walls get checked for wind and plumb, floors for level, and the setting-out is taken from the worst reading, not the best.
How we approach it
A set of mouldings is a permanent part of the building, so it is worth setting out properly. We take the survey, agree the drawings, machine the parts in the workshop and fit in Staffordshire in one visit wherever the programme allows.
How we build it
Moisture matters more than most people expect. Timber is conditioned before machining, and anything going into a kitchen, utility or bathroom is specified in materials that will not swell at the bottom edge. That is why the base of a well-made unit still closes cleanly after five winters.
Finish and materials
Every finished job gets a short handover: what the surface is, how to clean it, and how to adjust a hinge if a door drops after the heating has been on for a season. Adjustment is normal in timber and takes about two minutes once you know which screw to turn.

Straight answers
Skirting, Architrave & Mouldings in Staffordshire — common questions
Can you match a Victorian skirting profile?
Yes. We take a profile gauge from a clean section, have a cutter ground if it is not in our stock range, and run it in whatever length you need. Ogee, torus and lambs tongue are all held as standard.
MDF or timber?
Primed MR MDF for painted skirting and architrave — it is straighter, cheaper and takes paint better. Solid timber only where it will be stained or where the profile is deep enough to need the strength.
How do you deal with uneven walls?
Scribe the back of the board to the wall rather than filling the front. Filler along a top edge cracks within a heating season; a scribed board does not.
What is the right architrave to skirting relationship?
Architrave is normally a little narrower than the skirting is tall, and the skirting dies into a plinth block at the base of the architrave in a traditional setting. It solves the awkward junction where a deep skirting meets a shallower architrave.
Do you work with architects and builders?
Regularly. We can work to your drawings and specification, price from a schedule, and co-ordinate with the main contractor's programme. We are equally happy dealing directly with a homeowner from a rough sketch.
