Vale of Glamorgan is a county of limestone cottages, Victorian seaside villas and substantial modern estates. That is exactly the kind of building stock a set of mouldings has to be drawn around, so we allow for it at survey stage rather than on fitting day — walls get checked for wind and plumb, floors for level, and the setting-out is taken from the worst reading, not the best.
How we approach it
Off-the-shelf units are made to standard sizes and then filled out with scribe strips. Our set of mouldings work is cut to the dimensions taken from your Vale of Glamorgan property, so there is no packing, no filler and no gap that opens up in year two.
How we build it
Carcass work is birch ply or MR MDF depending on span and load. Face frames and doors are solid hardwood. Everything is machined on the same setting so stiles, rails and reveals line through, and shadow gaps stay parallel from one end of the run to the other.
Finish and materials
Finishing happens in the workshop wherever possible. Sprayed paint gives an even film that brushwork cannot match, and the only work left on site is the final touch-in around scribes and fixings.

Straight answers
Skirting, Architrave & Mouldings in Vale of Glamorgan — common questions
Can you match a Victorian skirting profile?
Yes. We take a profile gauge from a clean section, have a cutter ground if it is not in our stock range, and run it in whatever length you need. Ogee, torus and lambs tongue are all held as standard.
MDF or timber?
Primed MR MDF for painted skirting and architrave — it is straighter, cheaper and takes paint better. Solid timber only where it will be stained or where the profile is deep enough to need the strength.
How do you deal with uneven walls?
Scribe the back of the board to the wall rather than filling the front. Filler along a top edge cracks within a heating season; a scribed board does not.
What is the right architrave to skirting relationship?
Architrave is normally a little narrower than the skirting is tall, and the skirting dies into a plinth block at the base of the architrave in a traditional setting. It solves the awkward junction where a deep skirting meets a shallower architrave.
What guarantee do you give?
Ten years on workmanship. Hardware carries the manufacturer's warranty, which on good runners and hinges is usually lifetime. Finishes are guaranteed for five years against flaking or delamination in normal domestic use.
