Carcass work is birch ply or MR MDF depending on span and load. Face frames and doors are solid hardwood. Everything is machined on the same setting so stiles, rails and reveals line through, and shadow gaps stay parallel from one end of the run to the other.

You can have it primed for your own decorator, sprayed in any RAL or heritage colour, or left in oiled timber. Oiled finishes can be refreshed at home; sprayed finishes are harder wearing and are what we recommend for kitchens and anything at knee height.

What timber do you use?
Accoya as standard for painted sashes — it is dimensionally very stable, which matters in a component that has to slide. European redwood is available at lower cost with a shorter finish life.
Will the new windows still rattle?
No. The brush seals take up the clearance the sashes need to slide, so they are quiet in wind while still moving freely.
Can traditional sash windows be double glazed?
Yes. Slim-profile double glazed units from 11mm fit into a properly made sash without the sightlines going heavy. They weigh more, so the counterweights are recalculated and the cords upgraded.
Cords and weights, or spiral balances?
Cords and weights for a traditional box sash — they are repairable indefinitely and feel right. Spiral balances suit a slimmer box and are the only option where there is no weight pocket, but they wear out and need replacing.
