Cornwall is a county of granite cottages, fishermen's terraces and a strong second-home refurbishment market. That is exactly the kind of building stock a shopfront fascia has to be drawn around, so we allow for it at survey stage rather than on fitting day — walls get checked for wind and plumb, floors for level, and the setting-out is taken from the worst reading, not the best.
How we approach it
Walls in Cornwall are rarely square and floors are rarely level. A shopfront fascia that is built in a workshop to a nominal size will show every millimetre of that. We survey first, scribe on site, and finish so the joint line disappears.
How we build it
Carcass work is birch ply or MR MDF depending on span and load. Face frames and doors are solid hardwood. Everything is machined on the same setting so stiles, rails and reveals line through, and shadow gaps stay parallel from one end of the run to the other.
Finish and materials
Every finished job gets a short handover: what the surface is, how to clean it, and how to adjust a hinge if a door drops after the heating has been on for a season. Adjustment is normal in timber and takes about two minutes once you know which screw to turn.

Can you fit a fascia to a curved frontage?
Yes, laminated to the radius taken off the survey. A fascia bent on site against its will opens at the joints within a season.
Can the old fascia be repaired instead?
If the rot is local and the mouldings are sound, we splice in new hardwood and re-profile it. If the board is delaminating or the blocking has gone, replacement is cheaper than repeated repairs.
Can a fascia carry illuminated signage?
Yes, if it is built to. We set solid blocking behind the board where the fixings and the cable run will land, rather than leaving the sign company to fix into a thin panel.
Do I need consent to change a fascia?
Advertisement consent is usually needed for the sign itself, and in a conservation area the fascia joinery may need planning permission too. Worth checking before ordering, not after.
