Sliding Door Wardrobes in Greater London

Full-height sliding doors where a hinged door has nowhere to swing.

Greater London is a county of Victorian and Edwardian terraces, Georgian townhouses and post-war conversions, where no two chimney alcoves are the same width. That is exactly the kind of building stock a sliding-door wardrobe has to be drawn around, so we allow for it at survey stage rather than on fitting day — walls get checked for wind and plumb, floors for level, and the setting-out is taken from the worst reading, not the best.

How we approach it

The difference between a fitted job and a fitted-looking job is the setting out. For sliding door wardrobes in Greater London we rod the job first, so what arrives on site already accounts for the bows, the skirting and the ceiling line.

How we build it

Hardware is specified to the weight it is carrying, not to a price point. Soft-close runners are rated for the drawer load, hinges are adjustable in three planes, and sliding gear is sized so a full-height door still moves with one finger a decade later.

Finish and materials

You can have it primed for your own decorator, sprayed in any RAL or heritage colour, or left in oiled timber. Oiled finishes can be refreshed at home; sprayed finishes are harder wearing and are what we recommend for kitchens and anything at knee height.

Straight answers

Sliding Door Wardrobes in Greater London — common questions

How heavy can a sliding door be?

Standard domestic gear handles up to about 80kg per leaf. A full-height mirrored door can reach that on its own, which is why we specify the gear after the panel material is chosen, not before.

How much space do sliding doors take up inside?

The top track and bottom guide take roughly 100mm off the internal depth. On a 650mm carcass that still leaves comfortable square hanging; on a 550mm carcass it does not, so we would recommend hinged doors instead.

What can the door panels be made from?

Mirror, painted glass, veneered panel, painted MDF, or a framed combination of two or three. Mirror adds a lot of weight, so the gear is sized accordingly.

Can I have three doors instead of two?

Yes. Three doors on a two-track system means one bay is always covered. Three tracks gives you access to any two bays at once but pushes the carcass deeper.

What guarantee do you give?

Ten years on workmanship. Hardware carries the manufacturer's warranty, which on good runners and hinges is usually lifetime. Finishes are guaranteed for five years against flaking or delamination in normal domestic use.
