Sliding Door Wardrobes in Merseyside

Full-height sliding doors where a hinged door has nowhere to swing.

Merseyside is a county of Georgian and Victorian townhouses, terraced streets and post-war regeneration stock. That is exactly the kind of building stock a sliding-door wardrobe has to be drawn around, so we allow for it at survey stage rather than on fitting day — walls get checked for wind and plumb, floors for level, and the setting-out is taken from the worst reading, not the best.

How we approach it

A sliding-door wardrobe is a permanent part of the building, so it is worth setting out properly. We take the survey, agree the drawings, machine the parts in the workshop and fit in Merseyside in one visit wherever the programme allows.

How we build it

Carcass work is birch ply or MR MDF depending on span and load. Face frames and doors are solid hardwood. Everything is machined on the same setting so stiles, rails and reveals line through, and shadow gaps stay parallel from one end of the run to the other.

Finish and materials

You can have it primed for your own decorator, sprayed in any RAL or heritage colour, or left in oiled timber. Oiled finishes can be refreshed at home; sprayed finishes are harder wearing and are what we recommend for kitchens and anything at knee height.

Straight answers

Sliding Door Wardrobes in Merseyside — common questions

Do sliding doors seal against dust?

Not fully — there is always a running clearance. Brush seals on the stiles reduce it a great deal. If dust is a real concern, hinged doors on soft-close hinges are the better choice.

Is the floor under the wardrobe carpeted?

We recommend fitting to the subfloor and carpeting up to the unit. Sliding gear needs a flat, firm bottom track, and carpet underneath will compress unevenly and throw the doors out.

Can sliding wardrobes be removed later?

The doors and track come off easily. The carcass is fixed to the wall, so removing it will need making good behind. It is fitted furniture, designed to stay.

Can sliding doors be full height?

Yes, up to about 2,800mm. Above around 2,400mm we move to a heavier gear set and a steel-reinforced stile, because a tall panel that flexes will jam in the track.

How do I pay, and when?

A deposit at order to cover materials, a stage payment when the work leaves the workshop, and the balance on completion after you have inspected the fit. Everything is written into the quotation before you commit.
