Leicestershire is a county of slate-roofed brick terraces, ironstone villages and substantial new development. That is exactly the kind of building stock a staircase has to be drawn around, so we allow for it at survey stage rather than on fitting day — walls get checked for wind and plumb, floors for level, and the setting-out is taken from the worst reading, not the best.
How we approach it
Every staircase we make starts with a site survey and a set of setting-out drawings, not a catalogue page. We measure the opening in Leicestershire, check the walls for wind and the floor for fall, then cut a carcass that fits the room you actually have.
How we build it
Hardware is specified to the weight it is carrying, not to a price point. Soft-close runners are rated for the drawer load, hinges are adjustable in three planes, and sliding gear is sized so a full-height door still moves with one finger a decade later.
Finish and materials
Finishing happens in the workshop wherever possible. Sprayed paint gives an even film that brushwork cannot match, and the only work left on site is the final touch-in around scribes and fixings.

Straight answers
Staircases & Balustrades in Leicestershire — common questions
Can you replace just the balustrade?
Yes, and it is the single biggest visual change you can make for the money. New newel posts, handrail and spindles, or a glass or steel infill, onto the existing carriage.
What timber for a stair?
Oak for a natural finish — it is hard enough to take traffic. Tulipwood or engineered softwood for a painted stair. Treads take more wear than anything else in the house, so we do not use soft timber on a tread regardless of the finish.
How long is the house without a staircase?
For a straight replacement, one to two days with a temporary means of access. We sequence so upstairs is reachable at the end of each working day.
Can I change a straight stair to a winder?
Often yes, and it is a good way to recover floor space. The tricky part is the headroom at the top of the winder and the trimming of the floor opening, which is structural work requiring a builder alongside us.
Do you charge for the survey and drawings?
The measured survey and the quotation are free. If you want fully detailed manufacturing drawings or a 3D visual before committing, that is chargeable and the fee comes off the job if you proceed.
