Cornwall is a county of granite cottages, fishermen's terraces and a strong second-home refurbishment market. That is exactly the kind of building stock a run of timber cladding has to be drawn around, so we allow for it at survey stage rather than on fitting day — walls get checked for wind and plumb, floors for level, and the setting-out is taken from the worst reading, not the best.

We build timber cladding as cabinetmakers rather than fitters: machined joints, real carcass construction, and a finish applied under workshop conditions before anything reaches your Cornwall address.
How we build it
Timber is chosen for the room it is going into. Painted work is built in tulipwood and moisture-resistant MDF because they hold a crisp arris and take a sprayed finish without grain rise. Where the grain is meant to be seen we use European oak, walnut or ash, with veneers laid so the figure runs continuously across a set of doors.
Finish and materials
Every finished job gets a short handover: what the surface is, how to clean it, and how to adjust a hinge if a door drops after the heating has been on for a season. Adjustment is normal in timber and takes about two minutes once you know which screw to turn.

Will it all go grey?
If untreated, yes, and unevenly at first — the sheltered areas silver more slowly than the exposed ones. It evens out over two to three years. If you want it to stay honey-coloured, expect to recoat every two to three years.
Is timber cladding a fire risk?
On a domestic house below 11m, standard timber cladding is generally acceptable, subject to distance from the boundary. Above 11m or on flats, non-combustible materials are required. We check the position against current regulations before quoting.
How long will it last?
Larch and cedar in a well-detailed, ventilated rainscreen give thirty to fifty years. The failures we are called to are nearly always detailing — no cavity, wrong fixings, or boards taken to ground level with no clearance.
Does cladding need a cavity behind it?
Yes. A ventilated and drained cavity on treated battens over a breather membrane is what keeps the boards dry from both sides. Cladding fixed straight to a wall will cup, and the wall behind will stay wet.
What guarantee do you give?
Ten years on workmanship. Hardware carries the manufacturer's warranty, which on good runners and hinges is usually lifetime. Finishes are guaranteed for five years against flaking or delamination in normal domestic use.
