How is it fixed?
Stainless steel ring-shank nails or screws — never galvanised, which reacts with the tannin in larch and cedar and leaves black streaks down the elevation. Secret-fixed profiles are available where you want no visible fixings.
What board profile should I choose?
Shiplap and feather edge are traditional and shed water well. Square-edge with a shadow gap reads contemporary and needs a good membrane behind it because it is not weather-tight on its own. Vertical boards drain faster than horizontal.
Can I clad over existing render or brick?
Yes, provided the substrate is sound and the wall can take the batten fixings. It is a common way to update a tired elevation and adds a ventilated layer that helps the wall dry.
Which timber should I use for cladding?
Siberian larch for durability and value; western red cedar for stability and a finer grain at a higher price; thermowood for good dimensional stability on a budget. All three can be left to silver or kept in colour with a UV-stable oil.
How long does a bespoke job take from order to fitting?
Most fitted furniture runs four to eight weeks from approved drawings to fitting day. Kitchens, staircases and timber windows are longer at eight to fourteen weeks because the components are larger and the finishing schedule is longer. We give you a date band at quotation and confirm the fitting week once the drawings are signed off.
