Timber is chosen for the room it is going into. Painted work is built in tulipwood and moisture-resistant MDF because they hold a crisp arris and take a sprayed finish without grain rise. Where the grain is meant to be seen we use European oak, walnut or ash, with veneers laid so the figure runs continuously across a set of doors.
Finish and materials
Every finished job gets a short handover: what the surface is, how to clean it, and how to adjust a hinge if a door drops after the heating has been on for a season. Adjustment is normal in timber and takes about two minutes once you know which screw to turn.

Do you supply the mirror?
Yes. A full-length mirror on a pivot or a wall-mounted panel with lighting to both sides rather than overhead — overhead light alone casts shadows down the face.
Open shelving or doors?
Open is faster to use and shows what you own, but it needs to stay tidy and everything gathers dust. A common compromise is open hanging with drawer banks and doored cupboards at the ends for the things you would rather not see.
Can you fit an island in a dressing room?

On a like-for-like specification it is usually comparable, and often less. Chains price a standard carcass and then charge for every deviation. A bespoke maker prices the actual room once. Where bespoke does cost more is in the materials — solid hardwood and sprayed finishes cost more than foil-wrapped board, and they last a great deal longer.
