Cheshire is a county of black-and-white revival houses, Georgian Chester stock and large executive estates. That is exactly the kind of building stock a run of wall panelling has to be drawn around, so we allow for it at survey stage rather than on fitting day — walls get checked for wind and plumb, floors for level, and the setting-out is taken from the worst reading, not the best.
How we approach it
Walls in Cheshire are rarely square and floors are rarely level. A run of wall panelling that is built in a workshop to a nominal size will show every millimetre of that. We survey first, scribe on site, and finish so the joint line disappears.
How we build it
Carcass work is birch ply or MR MDF depending on span and load. Face frames and doors are solid hardwood. Everything is machined on the same setting so stiles, rails and reveals line through, and shadow gaps stay parallel from one end of the run to the other.
Finish and materials
Every finished job gets a short handover: what the surface is, how to clean it, and how to adjust a hinge if a door drops after the heating has been on for a season. Adjustment is normal in timber and takes about two minutes once you know which screw to turn.

Does it need to be painted on site?
Panelling is usually installed primed and painted in place, because the fixing and filling has to happen first. We can supply it sprayed if a decorator is doing a cut-in only.
Can sockets and switches stay where they are?
They need extending forward by the panel thickness with a spacer collar — a small electrical job. We mark the positions and cut the apertures to suit.
How high should panelling go?
Dado height at roughly one third of the wall — usually 900mm to 1,100mm — for a traditional room. Full height for drama in a hallway or behind a bed. Two thirds height reads awkward and is worth avoiding.
Can panelling go over a chimney breast or around a radiator?
Yes. Setting out is the whole job here — the panel widths are calculated so the divisions land sensibly either side of features rather than a half panel appearing at a corner.
Do I need to empty the room before you fit?
Clear the working wall and anything fragile. We bring dust sheets and a vacuum-extracted saw, but fitting makes dust and we would rather your furniture was out of the way. For kitchens we will agree a sequence with you so you keep a sink and a kettle for as long as possible.
