Window Seats & Bay Seating in Flintshire

Storage seating scribed into a bay, with a lid that lifts and stays.

Flintshire is a county of brick and rendered village housing with extensive modern development. That is exactly the kind of building stock a window seat has to be drawn around, so we allow for it at survey stage rather than on fitting day — walls get checked for wind and plumb, floors for level, and the setting-out is taken from the worst reading, not the best.

How we approach it

Off-the-shelf units are made to standard sizes and then filled out with scribe strips. Our window seat work is cut to the dimensions taken from your Flintshire property, so there is no packing, no filler and no gap that opens up in year two.

How we build it

Hardware is specified to the weight it is carrying, not to a price point. Soft-close runners are rated for the drawer load, hinges are adjustable in three planes, and sliding gear is sized so a full-height door still moves with one finger a decade later.

Finish and materials

You can have it primed for your own decorator, sprayed in any RAL or heritage colour, or left in oiled timber. Oiled finishes can be refreshed at home; sprayed finishes are harder wearing and are what we recommend for kitchens and anything at knee height.

Straight answers

Window Seats & Bay Seating in Flintshire — common questions

Will the lid stay open on its own?

Yes, on gas stays or friction stays. It is worth specifying — a heavy lid that drops is a real hazard where children are involved.

How deep should a window seat be?

450mm for perching, 500mm to 550mm to sit properly with cushions. Deeper than 600mm and you cannot reach the window.

Can there be storage underneath?

Yes, and it is the main reason to build one. A lift-up lid on soft-close stays is the usual answer for bedding and toys; drawers underneath are better for things you reach for daily.

Can it follow a curved or angled bay?

Yes. A three-sided bay is built in three sections meeting at the mullion lines. A curved bay needs a laminated front rail, which adds cost.

Do you work with architects and builders?

Regularly. We can work to your drawings and specification, price from a schedule, and co-ordinate with the main contractor's programme. We are equally happy dealing directly with a homeowner from a rough sketch.
