A surveyor comes out, measures the opening in three places, checks the walls for plumb and the floor for level, and takes the survey away with photographs. You get setting-out drawings and a fixed written price. Nothing is ordered until you have signed the drawings off.

Joinery in March — common questions
Can you match existing joinery in the house?
Yes. We take a profile of the existing skirting, architrave or door and either match it from stock cutters or have a cutter ground so the new work runs identically. Matching an old paint colour is straightforward; matching aged oak takes a sample panel and a couple of attempts, which we build into the programme.
What guarantee do you give?
Ten years on workmanship. Hardware carries the manufacturer's warranty, which on good runners and hinges is usually lifetime. Finishes are guaranteed for five years against flaking or delamination in normal domestic use.
How do I pay, and when?
A deposit at order to cover materials, a stage payment when the work leaves the workshop, and the balance on completion after you have inspected the fit. Everything is written into the quotation before you commit.
Do you charge for the survey and drawings?
The measured survey and the quotation are free. If you want fully detailed manufacturing drawings or a 3D visual before committing, that is chargeable and the fee comes off the job if you proceed.
