Finish and materials
Finishing happens in the workshop wherever possible. Sprayed paint gives an even film that brushwork cannot match, and the only work left on site is the final touch-in around scribes and fixings.

What overhang do I need for seating?
300mm of clear knee space for comfortable seating, 250mm as an absolute minimum. Any overhang beyond 300mm in stone needs steel or a bracket underneath.
How much storage does an island give?
A 2,000mm island holds roughly the same as three base units, more if you use full-extension pan drawers rather than cupboards. Drawers are the right answer in an island — nobody wants to kneel in the middle of a room.
Is a breakfast bar the same thing?
Not quite. A breakfast bar is usually a raised section or a peninsula attached to a run. A true island is free-standing on all four sides, and every face of it has to be finished.
How much clearance do I need around an island?
1,000mm minimum on every side, 1,200mm on the side with the dishwasher or oven so a door can open with someone standing there. Below 900mm and the room stops working.
Do you charge for the survey and drawings?
The measured survey and the quotation are free. If you want fully detailed manufacturing drawings or a 3D visual before committing, that is chargeable and the fee comes off the job if you proceed.
