County Antrim is a county of basalt and rendered stone cottages with a large modern housing stock. That is exactly the kind of building stock a stallriser has to be drawn around, so we allow for it at survey stage rather than on fitting day — walls get checked for wind and plumb, floors for level, and the setting-out is taken from the worst reading, not the best.
How we approach it
We build stallrisers as cabinetmakers rather than fitters: machined joints, real carcass construction, and a finish applied under workshop conditions before anything reaches your County Antrim address.
How we build it
Moisture matters more than most people expect. Timber is conditioned before machining, and anything going into a kitchen, utility or bathroom is specified in materials that will not swell at the bottom edge. That is why the base of a well-made unit still closes cleanly after five winters.
Finish and materials
Finishing happens in the workshop wherever possible. Sprayed paint gives an even film that brushwork cannot match, and the only work left on site is the final touch-in around scribes and fixings.

Straight answers
Stallrisers in County Antrim — common questions
What is a stallriser?
The panelled section between pavement and display glass. It protects the glazing from knocks and keeps the bottom of the window out of the splash zone.
What is the best material for a stallriser?
A hardwood frame with a moisture-tolerant panel. This is the wettest part of any shopfront — splash off the pavement plus cleaning water — so an untreated panel here will fail first.
Should it be ventilated behind?
Yes. A sealed stallriser traps moisture against the back face and rots outward, which is why so many look fine from the street until you press them.
Does it need to take a security shutter?
If a shutter is planned we detail the bottom rail and the fixing points for it during the build, rather than drilling into finished joinery afterwards.
What guarantee do you give?
Ten years on workmanship. Hardware carries the manufacturer's warranty, which on good runners and hinges is usually lifetime. Finishes are guaranteed for five years against flaking or delamination in normal domestic use.
