Tyne and Wear is a county of tyneside flats, Victorian terraces and extensive post-war estate housing. Finishing happens in the workshop wherever possible. Sprayed paint gives an even film that brushwork cannot match, and the only work left on site is the final touch-in around scribes and fixings.

What is a stallriser?
The panelled section between pavement and display glass. It protects the glazing from knocks and keeps the bottom of the window out of the splash zone.
What is the best material for a stallriser?
A hardwood frame with a moisture-tolerant panel. This is the wettest part of any shopfront — splash off the pavement plus cleaning water — so an untreated panel here will fail first.
Should it be ventilated behind?
Yes. A sealed stallriser traps moisture against the back face and rots outward, which is why so many look fine from the street until you press them.
Does it need to take a security shutter?
If a shutter is planned we detail the bottom rail and the fixing points for it during the build, rather than drilling into finished joinery afterwards.
Do I need to empty the room before you fit?
Clear the working wall and anything fragile. We bring dust sheets and a vacuum-extracted saw, but fitting makes dust and we would rather your furniture was out of the way. For kitchens we will agree a sequence with you so you keep a sink and a kettle for as long as possible.
