Glasgow is a county of sandstone tenements with generous room heights and original press cupboards. That is exactly the kind of building stock a run of wall panelling has to be drawn around, so we allow for it at survey stage rather than on fitting day — walls get checked for wind and plumb, floors for level, and the setting-out is taken from the worst reading, not the best.
How we approach it
Walls in Glasgow are rarely square and floors are rarely level. A run of wall panelling that is built in a workshop to a nominal size will show every millimetre of that. We survey first, scribe on site, and finish so the joint line disappears.
How we build it
Timber is chosen for the room it is going into. Painted work is built in tulipwood and moisture-resistant MDF because they hold a crisp arris and take a sprayed finish without grain rise. Where the grain is meant to be seen we use European oak, walnut or ash, with veneers laid so the figure runs continuously across a set of doors.
Finish and materials
Every finished job gets a short handover: what the surface is, how to clean it, and how to adjust a hinge if a door drops after the heating has been on for a season. Adjustment is normal in timber and takes about two minutes once you know which screw to turn.

Can panelling go over a chimney breast or around a radiator?
Yes. Setting out is the whole job here — the panel widths are calculated so the divisions land sensibly either side of features rather than a half panel appearing at a corner.
Does it need to be painted on site?
Panelling is usually installed primed and painted in place, because the fixing and filling has to happen first. We can supply it sprayed if a decorator is doing a cut-in only.
Can sockets and switches stay where they are?
They need extending forward by the panel thickness with a spacer collar — a small electrical job. We mark the positions and cut the apertures to suit.
How high should panelling go?
Dado height at roughly one third of the wall — usually 900mm to 1,100mm — for a traditional room. Full height for drama in a hallway or behind a bed. Two thirds height reads awkward and is worth avoiding.
How do I pay, and when?
A deposit at order to cover materials, a stage payment when the work leaves the workshop, and the balance on completion after you have inspected the fit. Everything is written into the quotation before you commit.
