Cumbria is a county of slate and rendered stone cottages with thick, irregular walls throughout the Lakes. That is exactly the kind of building stock a fitted wardrobe has to be drawn around, so we allow for it at survey stage rather than on fitting day — walls get checked for wind and plumb, floors for level, and the setting-out is taken from the worst reading, not the best.
How we approach it
Off-the-shelf units are made to standard sizes and then filled out with scribe strips. Our fitted wardrobe work is cut to the dimensions taken from your Cumbria property, so there is no packing, no filler and no gap that opens up in year two.
How we build it
Moisture matters more than most people expect. Timber is conditioned before machining, and anything going into a kitchen, utility or bathroom is specified in materials that will not swell at the bottom edge. That is why the base of a well-made unit still closes cleanly after five winters.
Finish and materials
Every finished job gets a short handover: what the surface is, how to clean it, and how to adjust a hinge if a door drops after the heating has been on for a season. Adjustment is normal in timber and takes about two minutes once you know which screw to turn.

Can you fit around a chimney breast or a radiator?
That is one of the main reasons people go bespoke. We build the run in bays that step round the breast, and a radiator is either boxed with a ventilated grille or the run is returned short of it.
Do the doors need handles?
No. Push-to-open catches or a routed finger pull along the top edge give a completely flat front. Handles are easier to live with on heavy full-height doors, and a J-pull rail is a good middle ground.
How much hanging space do I actually need?
As a rule, one metre of double hanging holds around forty shirts or thirty jackets. Long hanging for coats and dresses needs 1,600mm of clear height; short hanging needs 1,050mm, which lets you stack two rails in the same bay. We measure what you own at survey rather than guessing.
Hinged or sliding doors?
Hinged doors give you the whole opening and full-depth shelves. Sliding doors need no swing space, which matters if the bed is close, but they lose around 100mm of internal depth to the track and you can only ever see half the wardrobe at once.
How do I pay, and when?
A deposit at order to cover materials, a stage payment when the work leaves the workshop, and the balance on completion after you have inspected the fit. Everything is written into the quotation before you commit.
