Hardwood Worktops in Lanarkshire

Solid and staved tops, templated on site and jointed dry.

Lanarkshire is a county of sandstone and brick terraces, former mining stock and large new estates. That is exactly the kind of building stock a run of hardwood worktop has to be drawn around, so we allow for it at survey stage rather than on fitting day — walls get checked for wind and plumb, floors for level, and the setting-out is taken from the worst reading, not the best.

How we approach it

We build hardwood worktops as cabinetmakers rather than fitters: machined joints, real carcass construction, and a finish applied under workshop conditions before anything reaches your Lanarkshire address.

How we build it

Moisture matters more than most people expect. Timber is conditioned before machining, and anything going into a kitchen, utility or bathroom is specified in materials that will not swell at the bottom edge. That is why the base of a well-made unit still closes cleanly after five winters.

Finish and materials

Every finished job gets a short handover: what the surface is, how to clean it, and how to adjust a hinge if a door drops after the heating has been on for a season. Adjustment is normal in timber and takes about two minutes once you know which screw to turn.

Straight answers

Hardwood Worktops in Lanarkshire — common questions

How are joints made?

Dry-jointed with connectors so the timber can move, not glued solid. A glued butt joint across the grain in a kitchen will open.

Solid or staved?

Staved — narrow strips glued up — is more stable and far less likely to cup than a wide solid board. Full-stave gives a longer, cleaner grain line; narrow stave is more economical.

Can I have a sink cut into it?

Yes. Undermount needs the cut edge sealing very thoroughly — that edge is the most common failure point on any timber top. We seal it before the sink goes anywhere near it.

Will it mark?

Yes, and it will develop a patina. That is the trade-off for a surface you can repair rather than replace. If unmarked is the requirement, timber is the wrong material.

What guarantee do you give?

Ten years on workmanship. Hardware carries the manufacturer's warranty, which on good runners and hinges is usually lifetime. Finishes are guaranteed for five years against flaking or delamination in normal domestic use.
